Dozens of Hellenic RSL members participated in the Melbourne parade commemorating Australia’s war efforts on Anzac Day.

Victorians lined the city’s streets on Thursday to see the march including veterans from Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor and the Solomon Islands.

“As with other years, the Hellenic RSL Melbourne, proudly marched on ANZAC DAY, to honour all the service men and women that gave so much in the First World War. It is very important also never to forget the sacrifice by the Australian Forces, in all other conflicts they participate. Over 105,000 men and women have died from all conflicts that Australia has been involved in,” said past Hellenic RSL Melbourne president, Steve Kyritsis OAM.

The event marked the first time that veterans of peacekeeping operations led Melbourne’s Anzac Day march.

The parade route stretched from Princes Bridge on the edge of Melbourne’s CBD to the Shrine of Remembrance.

At the conclusion of the march, Hellenic RSL members returned to the club rooms in South Melbourne for a commemorative lunch featuring speeches on the history of the day’s event.
