Rampant tax evasion detected at declaration centers

Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) said Thursday that tax evasion rates reaching astir 100% were uncovered during inspections astatine 58 Declaration Submission Centers crossed the country.

The centers – known by their Greek acronym, KYD – are backstage offices authorized to assistance farmers, small businesses and individuals record tax and subsidy declarations with the government. They run under declaration with state agencies but are independently managed.

Officials recovered 45,200 receipts oregon invoices that had not been issued, hiding taxable income totaling €3.2 million. Fines of astir €414,000 were imposed connected violators, the bureau said.

In 42 cases, authorities ordered a 48-hour closure of the businesses involved. These included 8 centers successful Iraklio, 7 successful Kilkis, 4 successful Larissa, and two each successful Trikala, Kefalonia, Grevena, Thessaloniki and Drama. 

AADE said the inspections are portion of an intensified nationwide run to combat tax evasion and amended compliance among work providers.
