President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine Tassoulas stated that "connectivity in the fields of energy, transport, and digital development is the key to national security and economic growth," following the conclusion of the 11th Summit of the Three Seas Initiative in Dubrovnik.
In his statement, Tassoulas noted that "at the Business Forum of the Three Seas Initiative on Wednesday, here in Dubrovnik, the review of the 10-year existence of this initiative was discussed. We unanimously concluded that this Three Seas Initiative ensures, through connectivity, both national security and economic growth. Connectivity in the fields of energy, transport, and digital development is the key to national security and economic growth.”
The President of the Republic pointed out that "Greece, even though it has been a member of this Initiative for only three years, has many capabilities and plays a leading role in connectivity, which is the objective and requirement of this initiative. Through Greece, energy will increasingly flow northwards, contributing to the energy security of Central and Southeastern Europe....Thus, from here, national security and economic growth of all participating countries in the Initiative are supported, thanks to Greece’s participation and its political will to take the lead in this field," he added.
Earlier, in his intervention at the Presidents’ Session of the Business Forum and in response to a question about the future of the Three Seas Initiative Summit, Tassoulas stressed that "Greece has been a member since 2023, but we have embraced the original idea. This initiative, in my view, expands and extends our borders - our energy borders, our digital borders, and our transport boundaries."
At the same time, he argued that "Greece has become a key entry gateway for natural gas heading north - to Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine - thus expanding our capabilities. This makes us stronger and, of course, we are pioneers in this endeavor. I even believe that we are moving faster than the European Union and serve as an example for it."
Subsequently, Tassoulas underlined that "regarding the geopolitical crisis we are facing today, with the war in Ukraine and the Middle East, what is happening in our region - in Central, Southwestern, and Southeastern Europe - constitutes the answer to our concerns. We have serious concerns due to the conflicts, but we also have the answers."
"After the wars, we will continue to cooperate in three sectors: transport, energy, and digital connectivity. This cooperation will make us stronger, more productive, and more effective. This is the future of our region, this is the future of Europe, and I believe this is the future of a world currently being tested by conflicts," concluded the President of the Republic.
