Hikes for Τrain Enthusiasts: The Railway Path in Phthiotida

After the hike, the best thing you can do is to immerse yourself in the hot springs of Damasta, also known as Psoroneria, located a stone’s throw from the path’s starting point. With a steady temperature of 33C all year around, the springs extend a warm invitation to all, especially during the winter; the waters are considered ideal for the treatment of psoriasis and other skin conditions.

If you have time to spare, head towards Bralos with its beautiful railway station and old disused trains, or to Gravia, where the great “Battle at Gravia Inn” took place in 1821; a small force under the command of Odysseas Androutsos defeated an entire Ottoman army. The inn itself has not survived, but a monument marks the site where it once stood.

For accommodations, opt for the individual houses at Milias Camp (Tel. (+30) 22650.916.20, from €70 with breakfast) in Gracia. These cabin-like structures have fireplaces and can sleep up to five people, making them ideal for groups of hikers and families.

For food, choose To Tzaki (Tel. (+30) 693.692.1638) in Gravia. A great selection of dishes and daily specials, including such favorites as rooster with hilopites (traditional Greek pasta), wild boar stew, and delicious grilled chops and other cuts.
