The world’s most prestigious shipping exhibition is now also set to become the longest in duration shipping event, as Posidonia 2026 prepares to engage the global maritime community over a three-week period filled with conferences, networking, social and sporting events.
Posidonia remains the most important meeting place for the global maritime industry and this year is set to break all previous records.
Activities will begin in early-May and culminate during Posidonia Week, which officially takes place from 1-5 June. With 50,000 square metres of exhibition space at the Metropolitan Expo sold out months in advance, thousands of exhibitors and visitors from 140 countries will once again converge on Athens.
With shipping facing significant headwinds in a challenging global environment, there is a wide range of critical issues to be addressed.
Nuclear energy as a potential maritime fuel emerges as a key topic on the agenda. A high-level Executive Briefing will examine the role of advanced nuclear technologies in commercial shipping and near-shore power generation. The fact that Posidonia 2026 will host a dedicated executive seminar on civil maritime nuclear propulsion highlights how far the conversation has evolved, particularly in a country that controls roughly 20% of global merchant tonnage.
Beyond energy and regulatory developments, technological innovation is another central pillar of this year’s event. New developed maritime Artificial Intelligence (AI) services and products will be widely showcased at Posidonia, as the industry gradually integrates these capabilities into everyday operations.
"Artificial Intelligence is clearly transitioning from theoretical discussion to operational application,” said Theodore Vokos, Managing Director of Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. "Over 40 Posidonia 2026 exhibitors have lent their insights regarding AI adoption by their businesses, and what we are witnessing is not blind adoption, but structured experimentation. The maritime industry is assessing AI through the lens of safety, compliance and return on investment.”
The Posidonia 2026 Conference Programme is taking shape, with Marine Insurance Greece and RightShip opening proceedings in early May, focusing on risk management and maritime safety. On 20 May, the Naftemporiki Shipping Conference will further elevate the geopolitical challenges that reshape shipping, while the Capital Link Maritime Leaders Summit on 1 June will highlight the enduring leadership of the Greek shipping community, a cornerstone of international maritime trade and home to the world’s largest privately owned fleet.
The TradeWinds Shipowners Forum 2026 will take place on the first day of the exhibition, followed by the HELMEPA Conference, on environmental and sustainability topics. Among the highlights is the SNAME Conference, titled "The Greek Shipyard Renaissance: Rebuilding Capacity, Restoring Leadership”, which will explore the future of Greece’s resurgent shipbuilding sector.
"Posidonia is returning with greater strength and scale than ever before, driven by the industry’s renewed momentum and a shared commitment to maintaining the exhibition’s status as an unmissable biennial meeting point for the global maritime community - a place to connect, exchange ideas and collaborate now and into the future”, said Theodore Vokos.
